
Khmer Textiles: Lecture
This fascinating travel log of weaving in Thailand and Cambodia focuses on the dyeing and weaving of Khmer Hol (Ikat) textiles. These intricately patterned textiles are still created today using ancient labor intensive methods of resist dyed weft threads. Beautiful samples of these textiles will be displayed and a demo of how the patterned yarns are tied before dying will be included.
Lotus Fiber Lecture
Growing in Cambodia, the exotic pink lotus provides fiber that is most remarkable. The lecture includes videos taken on my trip to Cambodia of the fiber being harvested by talented women. A travel log of sites around Cambodia featuring Cambodian weavers is also included along with textile samples.

Brocade Weaving and Silkworm Raising in Thailand along with Silk Island Cambodia Brocade
This lecture includes information and video of Thai brocade weaving. The brocade is woven on 2 story looms that take 4 people to operate. Video will also show how golden silkworms are raised and the silk is reeled. Samples of white and the golden cocoons will be used as well as the basics needed for silk reeling. The silk island is located near Phenom Penh the capital of Cambodia in the middle of the Mekong River. It is home to many silk weavers and growers. I had the pleasure of meeting a family of 3 generarations of deligtful weavers where I was awed by there work. The talent and friendliness of these weavers is amazing. I delight in sharing my experience about these and other weavers.
